Disappointing K-Dramas October 2025

Okay fellow drama addicts — we all add new shows to our watchlists with stars in our eyes, but sometimes a series just doesn’t stick. Koreaboo rounded up five K-dramas that viewers publicly dropped in October 2025, and I wanted to pull the highlights for anyone deciding what to binge next (or skip).

1. Genie, Make A Wish

Genie Make A Wish poster

Stars: Kim Woo Bin, Bae Suzy. Premiere: Oct 3, 2025.

Premise: A genie wakes after 1,000 years to grant three wishes — but the lamp’s owner is disturbingly un-Aladdin. Despite the A-list leads and pre-release buzz (and controversy around performances), many viewers found the story messy and “narratively aimless,” calling it a train‑wreck they couldn’t root for.

2. My Youth

Star/Network: Song Joong Ki; JTBC. Started: Sept 5, 2025.

Premise: Former child star turned novelist reunites with his first love after a decade. Viewers praised the cast but many felt the central romance wandered too much — one person even quit just one episode before the finale because they couldn’t invest in the leads’ slow burn.

3. The Heavenly Idol

Notable: 2023 series starring Kim Min Kyu, Go Bo Gyeol, Lee Jang Woo.

Premise: A powerful high priest is trapped in the body of an unpopular idol and must make his group famous to return home. Some viewers dropped it because they found the female lead forgettable or were only watching for the male lead — enjoyment skewed heavily by casting appeal.

4. Bon Appétit, Your Majesty

Network/Platform: tvN and Netflix. Premiere: Aug 23, 2025.

Premise: A French-trained chef gets sent back to Joseon and becomes the royal chef to a food-obsessed king. This one’s polarizing — some love it, but critics among viewers flagged repetitive pacing and plot stagnation that made them stop watching.

5. Bad And Crazy

Year: 2021. Stars: Lee Dong Wook, Wi Ha Joon.

Premise: A corrupt detective’s life flips when an unpredictable justice-seeker shows up — plot twist: the two characters are revealed to be the same person. Some viewers disliked how that concept was handled and others called the tone inconsistent, so they dropped it despite the high-profile cast.

Quick context for fellow stans

  • These picks come from viewer comments and community drops compiled by Koreaboo — not critic reviews.
  • Some titles on the list are new (Genie, My Youth, Bon Appétit) while others are older but resurfaced in discussion (The Heavenly Idol is from 2023; Bad And Crazy from 2021).
  • Across these drops, common complaints were pacing issues, inconsistent tone, and characters that didn’t land — even when the cast was strong.

Thoughts? I’ve bailed on shows before for the exact same reasons — sometimes it’s worth powering through, sometimes not. If you’re unsure which to try, ask and I’ll tell you which ones I think are worth at least two episodes.
