Netflix Korea’s reality shows have been well-received by viewers all over the world, and the streaming service is doubling their output of Korean unscripted shows this year. The selection of upcoming reality shows features a range of genres, such as dating, psychological games, and even zombies.
Here’s a sneak peek of Netflix’s six exciting upcoming shows:
1. Siren: Survive the Island
This is a survival show like Physical: 100, where 24 women with immense physical strength – including firefighters, athletes, bodyguards, and stuntwomen – must join forces and use their wits to survive on a mysterious island for a week. Only one team will emerge victorious.
2. Zombieverse
Set in an imaginary Seoul under attack by zombies, participants on this show must complete quests such as finding food and transportation in order to survive. The art team from All of Us Are Dead and the zombie action choreographer from Kingdom have worked together to bring this “zombie universe” to life. Single’s Inferno 2’s Kim Jin Young has even teased that he will be a participant on Zombieverse.
3. The Devil’s Plan
A mind game survival show, participants must take off their “social masks” and show their true selves. It is directed by Jeong Jong Yeon, the producer of many hit shows such as The Genius, Society Game, The Great Escape, and Korea’s Got Talent. The winner of the show will receive up to 500 million KRW (around $382,000 USD).
4. 19/20 (Nineteen to Twenty)
The show follows Gen Z participants in the last week of being nineteen. At “19 School,” they learn lessons that prepare them for adult life, then at “20 House,” they experience independent lives away from their parents and teachers, making new memories.
5. Single’s Inferno 3
The third iteration of Single’s Inferno will bring new rules, places, and unexpected twists that will make the show more exciting than ever.
6. Risque Business: Japan
The first show to be released from the list, Risque Business: Japan is an interview show that meets people in the adult and sex culture, exploring unknown and “risque” sex-related topics. It will be hosted by comedian Shin Dong Yup and singer Sung Sikyung, and is the first show to be produced in five months.
